This strategy can be used to activate prior knowledge. Students are placed in groups of 3-4. One person has a paper and pencil. The teacher gives a topic to the class. Students then take turns writing down ideas relating to the topic. Only one student can write at a time. If a student gets stuck at their turn the group can help them. The goal is to get as many ideas down in the time frame given. Each group then takes turns sharing a response. Groups must cross off ideas that have already been shared.
